Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins that you can see (and sometimes feel) just under the skin. They are caused by a combination of factors: aging, hormonal changes in pregnancy, and chronic pressure on the legs. This condition often appears during pregnancy due to increased blood volume and hormonal changes that weaken vein walls.

It’s not uncommon for varicose veins to go unnoticed because they’re painless, but they can also be itchy or cause sensations like pins and needles or burning in the legs. Left untreated, these symptoms may worsen, especially during long periods of sitting or standing, which increases the pressure on your lower extremities. You can find various varicose vein treatment in South Carolina nowadays to cure your condition effectively.

Let us now see the most popular and effective varicose vein treatments available in South Carolina.

  • Endovenous techniques

Endovenous techniques are the most popular way to treat varicose veins. The procedure usually involves a minor surgical operation performed under general anesthesia. Most often, a catheter is inserted into an artery in your leg and threaded to the vein at the bottom of your foot through several small incisions. A microcatheter (a very small cannula) then extends from the catheter through the opening in your skin and directly into the vein to straighten out the veins. Though this technique is painless and quick, it may leave you with lacerations or scars on your legs, depending on which microcatheter is used. It also may result in bruising under your skin for up to a week after the procedure.

  • Clarivein

Clarivein is an alternative to endovenous techniques. It is a drug that can be injected directly into the varicose vein to stop bleeding, reduce inflammation and help the vein push blood up to your heart. During clarivein treatment, a provider will inject the solution into your affected veins through an injection in your groin area.

  • Venaseal

Venaseal is a non-invasive procedure that uses tiny balloon catheters inserted into the affected veins to push both the blood and the fluids toward the heart. Unlike other catheter treatments, venaseal happens in a vein that is not near your heart but instead in the groin area. The result is less pain and irritation for many patients.

  • Varithena

Varithena is a non-surgical treatment for varicose veins and spider veins. The procedure uses radiofrequency energy to treat a cluster of spider veins or smaller varicose veins in the lower leg. This procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia without any incisions or scars, meaning you can return to regular activities as soon as the same day.
